The Metronome That Fixed 15 Years of Terrible Rhythm
How a simple browser metronome transformed sloppy guitar playing into actual musicianship.
I have played guitar for 15 years. For about 14 of those years, my rhythm was garbage. I did not realize this because I mostly played alone. Then I tried to play with other people. The drummer gave me a look I will never forget.
I started practicing with a metronome — specifically a browser-based one because it was always open on my laptop next to my tabs and backing tracks. Sixty beats per minute. Just scales. Click. Note. Click. Note. It was boring. It was humbling. It worked.
What Changed
After two weeks of daily metronome practice, I could keep time. Not perfectly, but noticeably better. After two months, I could play with other musicians without getting the look. After six months, I could feel tempo internally without the click. The metronome is the most boring, most effective practice tool in music. Every musician knows they should use one. Most do not. Be one of the ones who does.
